OU
students interested in joining should attend the informational meeting Thursday,
Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Sooner Room located in the Oklahoma Memorial
Union.
The
“Learn to Curl” session taking place Sunday, Feb. 19, will be at the Arctic
Edge Ice Arena in Oklahoma City with current members providing transportation
for anyone who needs it.
Sooner
Curling Club President, Dylan Smith, said the club had about 50 members last
semester and is looking to increase those numbers this semester
“Right
now we’re making a big push to try and get new members, so the next couple
weeks we’re going to be out in the South Oval just trying to get the word out
there about the club so they can come to the ‘Learn to Curl’ session,” Smith
said.
Jillian
Lundie who has been a member of the Sooner Curling Club since its formation in
the fall semester of 2010 suggests everyone should come out and try it.
“It
kind of sounds stupid, you’re throwing rocks down a sheet of ice? But it’s
actually a lot of fun. It’s not something you do every day so it’s a great way
to try something new,” Lundie said.
The
Sooner Curling Club will have a table set up in the South Oval, Wednesday, Feb.
8 and Wednesday, Feb. 15, to give students more information on the important
dates approaching.
However,
Smith says the easiest way for students to get involved and stay up to date with
everything going on with the Sooner Curling Club is to “Like” the Facebook page
and “Follow” it on Twitter.
Students
can also find information about the club and contact information on the OU
Student Life website.
